The dry season usually begins from April and often extends to Christmas, with the best months being June through October. On the Great Barrier Reef, many coral species regenerate in the annual mass spawning that takes place in spring or early summer. The most common timing is 3-5 days after the full- moon in late spring/early summer (November or December). From August to October migrating whales are a common sight around the islands. Sailors can enjoy all the benefits the tropical "winter" has to offer - great winds, mild temperatures ...beautiful one-day and perfect the next! The SE-E trade-winds generally occur throughout the dry-season when winds of calm to 10 knots are the norm in the mornings, freshening to 15 - 25 knot NE sea breezes in the afternoons. Average temperatures during these months range from 15-25 degrees Celsius. Summer - Wet SeasonThe summer months of December to March comprise mostly SE-NE winds of 5-20 knots with occasional warm north winds of variable strength. The wet-season is nature's time of growth and rejuvenation. Trees spring to life and new-growth abounds. Turtles come ashore to lay eggs and the islands unique bird-life begin their mating rituals. The balmy, still tropical nights of the summer are truly memorable. Whilst these are the months most likely to produce rain, spectacular weeks of fine weather and calms can prevail. Average temperatures during these months range from 24-30 degrees Celsius. We offer fantastic deals for charters during this low-season period, check out our Hot Deals page.
